On October 29, Qatar Airways officially joined the oneworld alliance – thus becoming the 13th full member of the oneworld. With its unique geographical location, Qatar Airways has seen rapid development during the past 20 years, and this move will further improve its competitiveness in the Gulf area. Akbar Al Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways, indicated in an interview that the Qatari government has announced its plan to develop tourism before Qatar Airways decided to join the oneworld. Colin Neubronner, Regional Marketing Manager of East Asia & SWP Qatar Airways, said that for Qatar, developing tourism will take several years. ?Qatar Airways has opened flight routes from Doha to five Chinese cities – Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu and Chongqing, and will open another one to Hangzhou in December 2013.
